English International School (EIS) Moscow South-West is the newest of the three English International Schools in Moscow. Like our other campuses in Moscow, the curriculum is based on the internationally recognised National Curriculum of England, but adapted to meet the needs of the international community and to take advantage of being in Moscow. Since opening in September 2014 the school has gained a reputation as being a friendly and family-orientated school, where individuals matter. Parents show how much they appreciate the school's approach towards their children and the community spirit, which is so evident from the moment you walk into the school. Our philosophy is very child-centric so we support every individual to be the best that they can be and encourage them to develop a joy in learning. The school campus provides a lovely place in which to learn with ample space indoors and outside for learning and play. Our school building is generously proportioned with classrooms boasting plenty of natural light, wide corridors and high quality communal areas. We use modern technology to support learning, but also include traditional play activities where appropriate. We take pride in displaying the work of our students so all around the school, you will see colourful and attractive displays of work. Outside, we have a large garden which we make the most of. We have play equipment for use outside and we can use the space for PE, play and events. Even in the winter when the snow arrives, we spend some time outside to nurture a love of the outdoors. As a part of the Orbital Education family of schools, Moscow South-West benefits from the strength of a bigger organisation.
We believe that the best way to determine a good match between student and school is to meet the family and discuss the children’s needs. We are academically non-selective and so if school reports are available we use these to help determine compatibility. If families are not able to visit Moscow interviews/tours of the campus via Skype are also possible.
Admission is based around the family interview and past school reports, where possible. 'Taster' mornings or days can be arranged easily for those in Moscow. Once a child has been accepted and settled into the school we use standardised tests to give us a benchmark from which to track progress. We are able to accept a limited number of beginners in English.
We have a number of Welsh Teachers, including our Vice Principal, so this year we decided to celebrate St David's Day.Read more
Each year we try to remind our community of the importance of recognising those who are less fortunate than we are and raise some money for local charities. In the last twelve months we have supported the burns' unit of a local children's hospital : Speransksy Children's Hospital, and raised funds on a number of occasions.Read more
Although we are an international school 40% of our students are local - Russians. All our students whether or not they are Russian or Expat take lessons in Russian each week, so it is important to us all that Russian is well taught and that students enjoy their Russian lessons whether as first language or second language learners.Read more
What makes us special is that everyone feels part of the community. We regularly check what our parents are thinking so that we can be sure their reality matches our aspirations, and what that means is that we should be amongst the best. Each year we particularly check, by anonymous online survey, what our families who are new to the school experience. In September 2016 nearly 70% of our new families participated in the survey and their comments included : “The staff is wonderful. I like the curriculum” “Loves the teacher, has respect and is respected” “My child feels welcomed in the school and the teachers are all very accommodating” “…the welcome was perfect. There were no jitters; the principal and staff melt all the ice and set a great mood” As part of the introduction to the school we also explain our most important Guiding Statement to parents. This is our Vision : To be a family friendly school with high aspirations, where every individual matters. Our new parents told us that we are : • 100% successful in being family friendly • 100% successful with every individual matters • 89% successful in having high aspirations (11% don’t know) Of course this is just the start of the journey with us at EIS Moscow South-West, but later in the school year we will check to see how we are doing with the whole community and update this page accordingly.
